New Zealand Photos

The i-sites are all over New Zealand and were very useful along our journey.

U-shaped valley along the Hooker valley near the Hooker glacier.

Mt. Aspiring valley.

The hikers.

Sugarloaf view near the Routeburn trail.

A fierce robin, we named Bob, who hiked with us for over an hour on the Sugarloaf trek.

The ‘Big Slip”. A landslide that crossed the valley, taking out trees 200 feet up gradient on the other side of the valley on the Kepler trek.

Juli at the wheel of Big Red on the right side (the wrong side).

Soil cross-section showing an angular unconformity near pancake rocks.

A burnt umber creek along the Heaphy trek. The dark color is due to the decaying organics in the streambed.

A photo for our good dog friend, Lewis.

Juli psyched to be hiking again.

Juli picking her home-grown tomatoes during our rest in Chirstchurch.

New Zealand has the best playgrounds. Here is Jody on a thrill ride of the “Flying Fox”.

Juli on the Flying Fox.

Jody and Juli hanging out on the floating boat. Did I mention how cool playgrounds are in New Zealand?

Jody and I doing tricks on a hay bale.

Jody and Juli enjoying some fantastic lavender ice cream at the lavender farm.

Brothers: one sheep was a ‘self-cleaner’ and the other not.

The sheep brothers again.

Cool mushrooms.

People harvesting the grapes in the Marlborough Region for wine.

Here is a Weka, the flightless chicken-like bird that Sooz was trying to explain to the girls at the office in Salt Lake before my trip.
